Living an abundant life

Last month, we were able to facilitate a workshop for refugees with experienced guest speakers.

We learnt about the effects of trauma on our wellbeing and mental health, including how our brain responds to difficult situations. We also learnt some basic skills for providing Counselling First Aid and art therapy to help family and friends in our communities begin the process of healing.

We were joined by refugee friends from Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Congo. For many of them, it was the first time they had an opportunity to talk about these things and consider the importance of healing and mental health for building resilience and restoring wellbeing.

We hope that the skills and knowledge they learnt would be something they can take and use to help those around them live a more abundant life.

This story was shared with us by Partners based in South East Asia.

Interserve Australia

Interserve is a community of ordinary Christians putting faith into action. We live and work among the most marginalised peoples of the Arab world, Asia and Australia.

Motivated by Christ’s heart of compassion, and in partnership with His church, we share our skills and experience to change tomorrow by what we do today.
