Maria’s story
“I love to see the joy in my employers’ eyes…they took someone from absolutely nothing at all, and taught her how to grow.” Maria's story // Arab world

Rahul’s story
“Working here provided the money to go to school, and now I have finished university.” Rahul's story // Cambodia

Walking valleys in tears

Expect the unexpected

Why not?
Sometimes I feel we concentrate so much on how we feel His call and asking Him, “why us?”, but maybe a different way of thinking is, “why not?” Why not go and serve alongside those who have no option of living in a safe and materially blessed society as we do. We feel that Father has given us 30 years of abundant blessings, so why not now use these blessings to bless others.

What should I say? Praise be to God
“Every day is like this already. Every day is a new problem. What should I say? El hamdullillah [praise be to God].”

Under the Fig Tree
I hear whispers about people who care...

People of peace
There is an Afghan man I’ve known now for about 11 years, and who I consider to be my best friend. He loves to share his faith but has suffered a lot of rejection from his relatives because of his allegiance to Jesus. He has a real gift for explaining the scriptures and all the believers greatly appreciate him. He is a person of peace.

A lifetime’s service
Hundreds of babies grew into womanhood watched over proudly by a woman who would never be a mother herself.

Expedition to the Middle East
"As I flew into Jordan and looked out at the desert and the now-dry streams, I thought of the words of Isaiah 41:18 and I imagined God pouring fresh rain in the desert and seeing all of those riverbeds flowing with water. Even more than that, I imagined God pouring out His love to the people of this land."

Getting out the gate
We made a point of going outside the gate: going to the market, stopping for cups of tea, home visits at times of sickness and loss, attending celebrations and invitations for meals.

God the Master Craftsman
Before I headed off as an On Tracker for four months, I was told that the experience would change my life. I smiled and nodded; it was just for four months…

More than the sum of our parts
Pottery became a path to friendships with people in communities whose faith and worldview were utterly unlike mine. In the process, we exported hundreds of containers of pottery, brought substantial income into some of the poorest communities, and shared about the wonderful hope we have in Jesus.

Grant us wisdom and courage
I marvelled at the words of an old hymn this week, ‘Grant us wisdom, Grant us courage for the facing of this hour!’, words that seem so appropriate for this moment.

Exploring faith online
With the rippling Covid-19 effects and people being advised to stay home, online connections have dramatically increased. We can see waves of people flocking to online communities and content.

The ministry of being there
Simply sitting alongside the mother, hugging her, holding her baby, and showing love brought comfort.

God has a mission for people with a disability
“Disability removes an unhealthy power dynamic in the field.”

Hearts in colours
We spread out paper and simple art supplies. Nothing is complicated or technical, but to these women whose daily lives are shaped by displacement and feelings of helplessness, gentle guidance is necessary as we begin to transform blank pages with colour and form.

Mountains to beaches
"That’s how I come to live near this beach. My brother and I are sort of like Australian teens already, even though the Tibetan community here holds activities to help us remember what it means to be Tibetan."

Small beginnings
We are learning that sometimes small, seemingly insignificant things can have a big impact … like our two small veggie patches.
Interserve Australia
Interserve is a community of ordinary Christians putting faith into action. We live and work among the most marginalised peoples of the Arab world, Asia and Australia.
Motivated by Christ’s heart of compassion, and in partnership with His church, we share our skills and experience to change tomorrow by what we do today.
