God put the love for these women in my heart.

Ingrid, Interserve worker in the Arab world

These are their stories …

70% of the people in the world living in poverty are women.

90% of women’s income is reinvested back into the household. When women have more influence over economic decisions, their families allocate more income to food, health, education, children’s clothing and children’s nutrition.

“Each of my friends has a story to tell, that allow me a glimpse into the longings of their hearts. Our cultures, beliefs, identity and opportunities in life do not always easily intersect. But we find connection as women.”

– Kathryn, short-term worker in South East Asia

Refugee women in the Middle East face the birth of a baby conceived through violence. They are cared for by an Interserve midwife who has given her life to loving and serving the most vulnerable.

This is how God works. Being present through others in our pain.

Refugee women in West Asia grieve for a child who’s been lost. Their stories connect over colours and artworks in a safe space created by an Interserve worker there.

This is how God works. Drawing hope from unthinkable despair.

Violence against women is the leading cause of death and disability for women.

Did you know? For its first 100 years, Interserve was an all-women agency working primarily with women and children.

Globally, nearly 15 million girls under age 18 are married every year – or 37,000 each day.

A woman in South East Asia has found training and employment in a project run by Interserve workers, giving her an opportunity to leave the sex trade.

This is how God works. Raising the most vulnerable to a place of dignity.

A young woman from a poor background in Central Asia, who, with the encouragement and prayer of an Interserve friend, has embraced an opportunity for higher education and achieved her dream to become a doctor.

This is how God works. Multiplying our offering one hundred fold.

Justice — Healing — Employment — Education

These are not only women’s issues – they are human issues. When women thrive, all humanity thrives.

As I grapple with what wholistic mission looks like in my life here, I should not just be asking myself how I can use my professional skills for Kingdom work, but also how I can use my roles as wife, mother and woman to connect with other women.

Adriana, Interserve worker in Central Asia

Serve

In Asia and the Arab world...

Interserve is a global community of ordinary Christians taking action in faith. We serve among the most marginalised peoples of Asia and the Arab world, wherever possible alongside the local church.

Serve with us overseas using your skills and experience to meet needs and build local capacity. Placements range from 6 weeks to 20 years.

In Australia...

CultureConnect is a ministry of Interserve, equipping the church in Australia to reach out cross-culturally in our own neighbourhoods.

Serve with us in Australia by teaching English, visiting detention centres, running a playgroup or simply befriending your neighbour. We can help your whole church learn how to get involved.

Pray

... for more to serve

There is great need for more women and men to engage cross-culturally. Pray with us that God would work in people’s hearts, to respond to the world’s need and his call to serve.

... for wholeness

Recognising the other – women who are hidden, unrecognised and marginalised in their communities – is at the heart of women in mission. Going to places where people feel broken, empty, hurting, unseen and unrecognised, women incarnate Christ who seeks, finds, heals, redeems and celebrates.

... as women engage

Women are sisters, mothers, singles, aunts, wives, daughters, grandmothers, nieces and friends. Pray for mutual connection across culture and language.
