S and D have been working one-to-one with many Central Asian and Persian migrants in the south of Melbourne for around 10 years. This past year, the government has settled loads more in the community, right on their doorstep. S and D have worked with local pastors using a cooperative program to mobilise Christians to stand with these newcomers and help them. The sharing of faith will be a natural outflow of the friendships they will be forming. It feels like there is electricity in the air and the team has a real conviction of God doing something unique.
“I was asked to meet a young man who had just arrived in Adelaide, so I went to the agreed meeting place, introduced myself and got to know him. He seemed very interested in the church. He told me that a family member had been given a Bible years ago and it was precious, although it was never read.
I invited him to Bible studies and church services, which he seemed to enjoy. I introduced him to other friends of mine and others in our church and he established good relationships with young people of his age. I have not had contact with him for quite a while now but the couple who run the studies announced cheerfully last week that he has asked to be baptised so that he can follow the Lord Jesus. What a joy to hear that God is at work in Adelaide.”
