The Churchs vision is to grow to train people for ministry to design new programs and activities for youth and children to increase unity to be a neighbourhood church that attracts the neighbours to its services to increase social activities and to minister to the refugees in the area.

There are many possibilities for this role: the church and neighbourhood have many needs but the need is for human resources. The church would like someone who is able to fulfill one or more of the following roles: Youth work tutoring (French and English) music (for example to start a choir with the youth) teaching English to refugees working with the elderly (the church has an old peoples home — nursing experience would be a bonus) visiting refugees in the neighborhood and co-ordinating relief writing grant proposals and administration to improve ministry in the neighborhood medical ministry beginning a theological/ministry training centre manual work to maintain the church building.

The ideal person for this role is someone with entrepreneurial characteristics willing to work independently but with a high degree of judgement and cultural sensitivity. No specific qualifications are required if you are able to carry out one of the listed roles. If candidate has no working Arabic some Arabic study whilst in country is required.

Obstetrician

This rural 150-bed hospital does nearly 4000 deliveries each year. The hospital has an active community health program and there are opportunities to be involved in research as well as clinical obstetrics. It is an integrated rural health and development program with extensive community work and there are strong links between the community antenatal clinics and the hospital.

An obstetrician is urgently needed for the hospital after the departure of a long-term senior obstetrician. The post includes a significant training component as national junior doctors are part of the team and come expecting postgraduate training. The hospital is nationally known for its training of nurse-midwives and community midwives as well as doctors. The existing obstetric team is about 50 per cent national and 50 per cent international doctors.

A capacity-building attitude will be a daily necessity (sometimes it is easier to do it yourself than teach someone else) but the hospital is in a unique position for holistic ministry at a number of levels.

Orthotics specialist

This project has served for many years in the rehabilitation of children affected by disability. Our vision is That all may have abundant life our purpose Serve God through serving the poor. Around 2000 children are seen annually at the hospitals central clinic and 4000 in community clinics. Over 500 assistive devices were produced last year and nearly 400 club feet were treated by the Ponseti method.

The rehab center staff including one pediatric doctor (part-time) a pediatric rehab physio and an occupational therapist would welcome a qualified orthotist with pediatric experience to come and initiate a service for CP children and children with complicated club-feet. We need to start making our own ankle foot orthoses. At present children are sent to a center approximately 1 hour away by vehicle but the quality of the work there is not good and the splints often break. We need someone to set up a small workshop within the assistive devices work and train local staff.

You need pediatric experience in making orthotics and an interest in training local staff to provide such services on an ongoing basis. Flexibility and willingness to work at practical solutions with limited resources are essential qualities

Physio/Occupational Therapist

The project has a holistic approach which seeks spiritual physical social and emotional transformation. There is a paediatric rehabilitation department which treats mainly children with cerebral palsy but also children with other disabilities. There is a clubfoot program and assistive devices are produced on location.

The hospital operates a rehabilitation unit for disabled children for up to 6 inpatients and over 1500 outpatients both at the hospital and in remote community clinics. Adult therapy services are offered for in- and out-patients. The project is seeking a physiotherapist or occupational therapist to give clinical support and guidance to our local therapy assistants in all three therapy disciplines. Other paramedical nursing and medical staff are also sought. A commitment of at least 1 year is preferable.
