Brian runs a manufacturing workshop with men from diverse cultures in an Australian prison. As they work, he gets opportunities to listen to them, pray, and talk about how God is there for him in always—and can be for them too.
For a time, Brian worked alongside Tim. During their conversations, they found a common concern in feeling out of control in life. Brian explained how in times like this, he has to keep going back to God and trusting he is in control.
“Why do you believe in God at all?” Tim asked.
“Jesus”, Brian replied. “When I read the accounts of his life, I am so struck by how he interacted with people. He’s a guy I can follow.”
So Tim started to read Mark’s Gospel.
“Why do you believe in God at all?” Tim asked.
A few weeks later, Tim simply declared: “You know, when I came here, I was a confirmed atheist. But now I’ve decided to follow Jesus. I knew a bit about Jesus, but I’d just never heard it put that way before.”
Only a few days later, Tim was transferred to another prison. Yet through working alongside Brian and the Gospel, God had shown himself to be real and made an eternal difference in his life.
Brian is an Interserve team member. He has lived and worked cross-culturally in Australia and overseas.
