Interserve’s model for supporting our workers

Team Support is a model whereby a group of people commits to supporting a worker through regular prayer, relationship, practical and financial support.

All long-term workers raise Team Support, and On Trackers serving for more than 12 months also raise Team Support to prepare them for long-term service. Team Support enables the Australian church to accompany the worker on their journey in four different ways: through prayer, practical support, relationships and financial support.

Through participating in all the aspects of Team Support, members of the Australian church can help sustain workers practically, spiritually and emotionally.

  • Prayer is essential. Supporters receive regular updates on prayer needs from their Partner or On Tracker.
  • Practical support needs will be different for every worker. Needs vary from help packing belongings, to IT support, hosting events or assistance during Home Assignment.
  • Relationship support can take the form of letter writing, visiting on location, sending ‘care packages’ or encouragement in other ways.
  • Financial support involves a commitment to give a regular amount to a Partner or On Tracker to meet their monetary needs.

Interserve operates on a pooled fund system. All donations are placed into a pool from which all allowances and costs are paid. Funds are administered through either a tax-deductible or non-tax-deductible pool, according to the type of work that the Partner is doing. This allows Interserve to cover shortfalls and pay full allowances regardless of fluctuations in donation income or international exchange rates. It also helps us to respond quickly to emergency situations.

Interserve is about sustainable ministry and we believe that our Team Support model provides a comprehensive, wise and accountable system of support which enables our Partners to serve long term.
