Introducing the next National Director for Interserve Australia

5 February 2025

A message from the Board Chair

It is with great thankfulness to God that we announce the appointment of James Hornby as the next National Director for Interserve Australia.

James and his wife Kerryn have served overseas and in Australia in a variety of pastoral and missional roles.

We share more about James, Kerryn and their family below.

James will commence in the role on 21 July 2025. In the meantime, please pray for him and his family as they prepare to relocate from Tasmania to Melbourne.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Karl Weaich for serving as interim National Director since July 2024. He will continue in the role until handing over to James.

I thank the Interserve community for your support and prayers as we journeyed through the recruitment process. We look forward to continuing to serve in God’s mission among the peoples of Asia and the Arab world.

Together in Christ,

Steve Bryan

About James Hornby

James is married to Kerryn and they have two girls, Ana-Laura (13) and Jenelle (11). James, Kerryn and their daughters are excited at the prospect of serving the Lord and Interserve as James takes up the role of National Director.

James has spent the last 17 years in vocational ministry in the Anglican Church across three churches. He has also served as Archdeacon with oversight over the Northern Ministry region in Tasmania. James is known for his gracious, thoughtful and creative leadership style.

The Hornbys have continually shown a commitment to personal evangelism, local mission and cross-cultural work. James has served on the board of CMS Tasmania and guest lectured at Worldview (WEC) College. In 2023, Jamesundertook a sabbatical and the family spent three months in Jordan with CMS. James served as locum minister for the International Anglican Church of Amman and the family volunteered with refugee-focussed organisations.

Prior to his full-time ministry roles, James worked as a silviculturist (tree scientist) and spent time in South Africa with Teen Missions Intl. Kerryn is a registered dietician and has served On Track with Interserve in the Middle East.
