Go love the world and be transformed into His likeness

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”

C. S. Lewis’ words are still stunningly true. They cut right to the bone of what it means to love.

Love is an action. Love is other focused. Love will often involve sacrifice and pain.

But the alternative is far worse.

Instead of being transformed into the likeness of God, who so loved the world that he gave his only son, we will become an empty shell.

So go, go love the world.

Whether you are a student, a mother, a carpenter, a jack of all trades, a creative type, a leader, care about global justice issues, interested in the environment or you’re uncertain about what God might want to do next – take a moment and ask Him.

How would you have me use my skills, my interests, my passions, my availability, my perceived weaknesses and vulnerabilities, even the things I’m afraid of, to love this world of yours?

Be prepared to experience grief and pain, for your heart to be wrung and possibly broken. But be encouraged that God will use these experiences to form you and shape you into a masterpiece that beautifully reflects his heart.
