Loving the world isn’t romantic

So don’t come out to be a missionary as an experiment; it is useless and dangerous. Only come if you feel you would rather die than not come. Don’t come if you want to make a great name or want to live long. Come if you feel there is no greater honor, after living for Christ, than to die for Him.’

You may be thinking: How violent! How extreme!

How… reckless.

How… painful.

Or perhaps: Why is Interserve, a mission organisation, talking so much about the sacrifices of mission?

Don’t they want people to sign up?

And the answer is: We do. Accepting new members is one of our greatest joys.

However, it would be foolish of us to pretend that the lifestyle we promote is an easy one, or a one-way ticket to achieving greatness.

Instead, we seek to be honest about the costs, to understand and empathise with your fears, and to walk with you on whatever journey God may be calling you to take in Asia, Australia and the Arab World.

Just as Jesus never promised an easy road for His followers, we cannot promise you a life of ease either.

But, we do believe that a life driven by the compassion that comes from the Holy Spirit is deeply satisfying and joyful.

We also believe that a God-glorifying risk is a calculated one.

And, if we can assist you in the joyful, challenging task of transforming lives cross-culturally, we have achieved our purpose.
