Suffering and pain are etched into the human experience and are therefore a critical part of the Christian experience too.
God’s love for us is characterised by pain: that of watching a once perfect creation become corrupted, the ache of the world and its people groaning in agony over the effects of sin, and that of choosing to let His one and only Son die an incomprehensible death on the cross.
As God aches, do we ache too?
Do we welcome the pain as a reminder of the privilege of sharing in His sufferings?
Do we seek out opportunities to confront the world’s groaning, or do we hide away and swathe ourselves in comfort?
Though all people, everywhere can reach out in love, believers have a special privilege.
A mandate born of a purposeful God whose love never goes to waste.
