Interserve workers have always done development and aid work overseas. This has been an effective way to achieve our vision and purpose:
Lives and communities transformed through encounter with Jesus Christ.
Making Jesus known through wholistic ministry in partnership with the global church among the most marginalised people of Asia and the Arab world.
Until now we have administered this part of our work through an Overseas Aid Fund. Interserve itself is an incorporated association with PBI status (Public Benevolent Institution). Due to some recent changes in the way that PBIs are defined, we want to move to a new legal structure that will allow us to continue to do all of the work we’re doing and administer it more effectively.
Our plan is to move from an incorporated association to two companies limited by guarantee, nested within each other. The parent company will be known as Interserve Australia Ltd and oversee all our work. The subsidiary company will focus on the benevolent part of our work and have PBI status. It will be known as Interserve Development Ltd. Interserve Development will retain the Overseas Aid Fund.
This move will allow us to retain tax concessions that lower the cost of our operations, and to claim them for our benevolent work in Australia as well.
BEFORE & AFTER:
At the Interserve Australia AGM on Saturday 18 May 2019, we will ask Members to vote to formalise the new structure, with a view to begin trading from 1 January 2020.
In all of this we remain committed to working with God in His mission as part of the Interserve International Fellowship. We believe that this new legal structure will allow us to do that more effectively now and in the future.
As always, we welcome your questions and feedback. Please contact Wes at email@example.com.
