What does Rachael’s work involve?
Rachael helps mission workers develop and sustain healthy spiritual lives as they serve on the field and beyond. She runs retreats (online and in-person), provides one-on-one discipleship and spiritual direction, and enables others through a peer network of spiritual directors within Interserve internationally.
By creating space, giving guidance and support, and inviting busy workers to draw close to God in the pressures of everyday life, this ministry helps mission workers flourish in the calling God has given them.
As workers are supported to develop healthy spiritual lives, it helps open avenues for transformation within their families, team and the communities in which they serve.
A little bit more about Rachael
Rachael and her family have served in cross-cultural mission in Asia for many years as well as on staff at Interserve Australia. With firsthand experience of the challenges, loneliness and stress of this calling and the enormous support and encouragement provided by a wise companion able to offer sensitive listening and discernment, Rachael felt drawn to train as a spiritual director to enable other mission workers to thrive in their ministry. Alongside this Rachael now holds a Doctor of Ministry degree focused on emotionally healthy spirituality for cross-cultural mission transitions.
Rachael’s own life experiences both on the field and in Australia equip her to listen well to both the person and to the Holy Spirit as she seeks to guide them on their journey.
Spiritual Direction has been a blessing to me personally and for my team in Asia… As cross-cultural workers caught up in the daily life of living and working in another country, another language, in full-time ministry, it can be hard to stop and quiet the soul and just listen to what God has to say, to dig deep into our soul. The spiritual direction times helped us do just that. I think it is an important part of missions to attend to the soul of the workers themselves, not just those we seek to serve.
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. – 2 Corinthians 3:18
